Mrs. Cloutier's Classes
MATH
The math program in the fifth grade is a continuation of EVERYDAY MATH which is taught in the lower grades. At the beginning of each unit, your student will bring home a family letter which explains the concepts being taught in that unit. It includes the vocabulary that will be used and gives the answers to the Study Links that will be part of the daily homework. I have three rules in math: 1.) Do all work in pencil only. Any mistakes made can be easily and neatly erased. 2.) Show all computational work. When mistakes are made, we can see where they exist. 3.) Have the assignment completed by the next day's class time.
HOMEWORK
Extra home study is required in subject areas once your child enters the fifth and middle grades. A nightly review of material covered that day will insure that your student is ready to move on to the new information presented the next day. Homework is the practice of new skills much as one practices a sport or an instrument. Assignments, unless otherwise specified, are due the next school day and should be completed by class time. An incomplete paper will result in a loss of recess when the work will be finished. A lost or forgotten paper brings the same consequence when the paper will be done over again. This not only keeps the student current, but also encourages a sense of responsibility. Homework assignments will be posted daily as much as possible on my website. Also, check your child's agenda book.
Thanks for your aid and support in helping your student work to be the best he/she can be.
